Mjolnir Thor Hammer

After many different variations, this is my final Thor Hammer. He's a quick look at how I did it.

Making the Head

I used a fence post and an extra piece of wood I had in the garage to form the head. After cutting and gluing them together, I cut the sides to form the hammer head.

First Time Carving...

I had no idea how to make the Celtic design on the movie hammer, so I made up my own design. If I could do this part over I would because I've since learned how to do it. This was the first time I ever used a Dremel, so with that in mind I guess it didn't come out too bad.

Painting the Hammer Head

After much sanding I used a white base coat and later Krylon silver metallic. Once that dried I applied black paint with a sponge and brush to achieve the weathered look.

The Handle

I used a 1 1/4 inch wooden dowel and more Krylon spray paint to make the handle. I used a plastic end cap I bought at Lowes and dremeled the shape from the movie hammer. I applied some stickers I bought from Hobby Lobby and then painted the cap.

Finishing the Handle

Making the handle has been my biggest challenge. I have made four different handles for this hammer. I like this one the best and it was actually the easiest to make. I bought a piece of leather from Hobby Lobby to redo the hammer stand and decides to try to use some to redo the handle. After very carefully cutting a guide from a piece of thick paper, I traced the lines on the leather with a Deco Color Premium Silver Paint Marker. The size of the pen tip was perfect for making the silver lines on the leather. I applied the leather to the handle with Gorilla Glue and and attache the end cap.

Finally Done!

Well, I think I'm done with this one. Hope you like it.
