Mosaic Salon Table

Looking for an oval mosaic table, I didn't find anything that I liked. Therefore decided to create it myself. It takes time but is quite easy. Have a try.

• pack of orange red broken tiles (900 gram ordered here)
• pack of green broken tiles (900 gram ordered here)
• construction adhesive (any will do)
• tile cement (used around 2kg from Knauf)

For my table I wanted an oval shape. An oval can be drawn using 2 nails, a string and a pen.

Table should be 65 cm wide and 105 cm long.

• a = 105/2 = 52.5 cm
• b = 65/2 = 32.5 cm

Using Pythagoras:

• a**2 = e**2 + b**2
• so e**2 = a**2 - b**2
• e**2 = 52.5**2-32.5**2 = 1700
• e = 41.23 cm

The string should be 2a +2e = 187.46 cm

Create the design

Arrange the tiles on the table. No glue yet. It is important move the pieces around to get a smooth pattern.

Glue the rim onto the plate. Remove the pieces apply glue and put them back at it's place. One by one or as much as you can remember how to put em back.

Then arrange the rest of the pieces to fit smoothly.

As the outer rim is already glued of the mosaic, it's time to do the rest.

Glue the tiles onto the wooden plate by removing one after another. Or remove multiple pieces but make sure to remember where to put them back.

Now it's time to apply the tile cement. Use quite some pressure to Fill up all the gaps between the pieces. To do so I used a plastic scraper.

If you're done use a wet sponge to smoothen the cement. The cement will be also on the tiles, that's no problem. Let I dry.

Then again clean the tiles with a sponge until all the cement remove from the tiles.

When everything is dry again, I did apply 3 layers of wood varnish to seal the tile cement from stains.

Add four hairpin legs to the table (get these anywhere online). I used 40cm
