Motion Ball Drop Project
Welcome to how to make a diagram of a Motion ball drop project for physics. These following steps will help you make a Motion Ball Drop like this one in the easy steps shown.
Materials
For your first step make sure you have all your materials. The materials you will be needing is a 3 to 5 foot range PVC pipe or your choice of a straight beam like material for the mounting of all the balls. A full roll of scotch tape for securing your objects to the beam and each other. String or fishing line if you would like it to look more invisible like what I chose for a cooler look. Ping pong balls are recommended for this assignment because they are lightweight and are capable of making holes in the tops for certain steps in the process, plus they are a cheap and easy recourse. Finally a measuring tool like a yard stick or meter stick that can measure longer distances of string for an easier process.
How to Connect the Balls to String
When connecting the balls and choice of string or fishing line you can either poke a hole in the top of the ping pong ball and then tie 3 to 5 knots on the end of the string and then insert that knot into the hole using a pen or point object, that will help pop it in. Another way to do it, that will not hang correctly or look even, is to tape the measured out string on the side of the ball and then let it hang from their. It will stay attached just the same but will not hang properly so I recommend that you poke the small hole using a knife and tie the knots into the ball.
Setting Up Measurements
To set up your measurements you must choose how many balls you would like to hang. The distance between each ball should be 10 cm apart from each other marked on your choice of hanging beam. Then you must go into demos and establish your initial height and the coordinated like so to show how you would like the drop to cover and the times it will cover. This way you will have a ball drop and will know how long to measure all strings for a perfectly looking drop problem.
Calculating Correct Lengths of String
In order to have a smooth and consistent looking Motion Ball Drop Problem you must have all the correct points plotted after you make the dots on the line after choosing the initial height. I chose 1.4 as my initial height and at my highest point I made a 5 cm gap below the PVC beam to have the proper hang for all the balls. Now in doing this you must add that 5 cm to all other heights when measuring to have correct data. Then after plotting all points you must on the X1 graph multiply it by the time it takes it at the end of the entire drop and multiply it by 1,2,3,4,etc.and so on for all the points needed then adjust the Y1 to the given line for proper line adjustment on the coordinating line for the balls and their distances.
Putting the Ping Pong Balls on
I chose to do a 10 ball drop and in my ten ball drop in the next few images. I have 7 from the highest point down and left and an additional 3 going to the right down. This is showing not just a drop problem but a throw up problem of a ball reaching its max height and then start the reverse process and coming back down as shown in the photos step by step on each ball. After each ball is set you now have a perfectly good and cool looking project to show your physics teacher if you have this assignment or for extra credit, also for a side hobby it is a neat looking piece of art to have around and look at.
