Mouse Planter

In this project you will build a desktop planter in the shape of a computer mouse.  This will be a great way to have a small plant on your desk and increase your geekiness.  It involves few materials and is a great conversation piece.  So, with that said, let's get down to building!

Materials

For this instructable you will need:
- An old ball mouse
- A film canister
- A plant and some soil

Tools:
- Drill
- Hot glue
- Tin snips
- Sandpaper
- Any tools necessary to take apart your mouse

Take It Apart

This should be pretty simple,  on most mice the screws are located at the bottom.  Just unscrew them, and put them aside.  You will need these later.  Then inside you will see a circuit board, you will need to take this out.  Mine just slid out and wasn't attached in any way.  Take out the ball and put it away or throw it out.  Now you have two halves of a mouse.

Preparing the Mouse

The actual planter is a film canister, and this film canister will need somewhere to go, so I decided to place mine where the ball went before I took it out.  As you can see the area where the ball was has a lot of plastic around it that prevents the film canister from going in. you will need to  take away so that the film canister will fit.  First I tried using a drill, but that didn't work so I ended up cutting off all the plastic with tin snips. The area will probably be pretty rough, so you will want to sand it down.  On the bottom side you will want to enlarge the size of the hole until the film canister makes a tight fit.  Do this to the top and bottom of this mouse.

As you have probably noticed, the film canister is too tall for your mouse.  To get it to the correct size, insert the canister with the bottom up into the hole that you made for the film canister.  Then mark the canister and cut along the mark with tin snips.  Drill a small hole in the bottom of the canister to let excess water to escape.

Putting It All Together

Hot glue the film canister into the hole,  you don't really need to do this, but it's better safe than sorry.  Now, drill a hole in the top half of the mouse right above the film canister.  This will allow you to easily water the plant and give the plant a way to grow up and out of the planter.

Planting Time :-)

Now you get to plant your plant.  Fill the film canister with dirt and put in some seeds.  Say a special prayer and watch your plants grow!  Thanks for viewing my instructable.  Please rate and comment.
