Cutting the Acrylic
The first step is making the display for the clocks to be mounted on. In order to know where to place the clocks and the acrylic letters, we use the laser machine to make a kiss cut. The kiss cut was made with the SP 500 200W CO2 laser with 20 power and 3 speed.
Once the kiss cut completed, we've used a full cut with the laser machine to cut the acrylic where the clocks will be placed. This cut was also made with the SP500 200W CO2 laser with 100 power and 1.2 speed.
Cutting the Acrylic Letters
To decorate the sign, we used our TroGlass Colour Gloss cast acrylic with adhesive backing. We cut the letters using our SP 500 200W CO2 with 100 power and 1.5 speed.
Placing the Acrylic Letters
After cutting the acrylic letters, we removed the 3M adhesive backing and place the letters on top of the kiss cut on the 6mm clear cast acrylic.
UV Printing the Clocks
We picked 5 cities around the world and used our Mutoh 426-UF UV Digital Printer to print these cities' landscapes on our Digital Print Series material. We've printed as CMYK without W (White) underneath each colour. The reason being it gives a see-through look, which is what we wanted given that the sheets were metallic-looking.
Engraving and Cutting the Clocks
Using the Speedy 360, we engraved the clocks using 80 power, 100 speed and an offset of 0.1. Then, the clocks were cut out using 100 power and 1.4 speed.
Making the Clock
Once the clocks were finished, we went to a local arts and craft store and added a clock kit. Once the clock kit is installed, we cut the 3M adhesive (with a box-cutter knife) around the battery pack and stick the clock onto the main part of the board (where the kiss-cut was made)
