You love 3D Printing don't you. But you hate being restricted to one extruder which can only print in one color. Well my friends today is your lucky day. This simple 'hack' to your 3d printer will allow you to have any color filament and time. You can even change the color of filament during the print! The only cost to this is a spool of regular white ABS or PLA filament, some sharpies and a small print that takes only 1 hour to print. Lets jump right in!

Here's what you need

3D Print the Filament Colorizer

Go to thingiverse and download the still file. This object should be printed at 20% infill and .2 precision, for best outcome. After the object is printed place the colorizer somewhere where it is most effective. I have a Da Vinci 1.0A so I put it where the filament comes through the back and into the build area. Placing it here allows the sharpie color to dry on the filament.

Get Your Sharpies

Place the sharpies in the two holes on the side of the object. Make sure the sharpie is all the way in by applying a little bit of force but, not enough to break the print.

For showing how it works I have a picture of the filament colorizer off of the printer. As you can see the filament is being covered in black sharpie resulting in a blackish, gray 3D Print. And as you can see the results are noticeable. I started the print without any sharpie and then I added the sharpie later. The results are noticeable. Enjoy all of the new possibilities of colors because the colors of sharpies are virtually endless. Don't forget to vote!
