Hello, I'm a seventh grade student that is doing a project on building a house that is sustainable to where it is located. My house is located near Niagara Falls river which if you look at the picture of the final product you can see a clay stream behide the house, to replicate the river. I have been working on the project for quite some time now, and spent a lot of time and effort into this project. The house is sustainable because it has lots of thick windows for natural light and heating. There is also insulation to keep the house warm when it is cold. My house has a well to provide the two sinks (one in the bathroom and one in the kitchen) a bathtub. There is also a compost bin to turn leftover scraps of food into soil for my lawn. The house has a farm. I know it sounds bad but I can get food from the animals.

What Is My Biome Like?

Well first of all let's get this straight a biome is a place on earth that has a naturally occurring habitat of flora and fauna, such as the everglades is an example of a swamp biome. While we're on the topic there are many different types of biomes, however there are five main types of biomes that include grassland, tundra, desert, forest, and aquatic. The aquatic can also be divided into different categories such as marine, freshwater, coral reefs, oceans. The biome that I have is the freshwater. For fresh water there are lakes, rivers, hot springs. I built the house to match the temp of Niagara Falls which is high 59 and low.

The well is made of popsicle sticks, hot glue, wooden cubes, Brown paint. The compost bin is made out of popsicle sticks, hot glue, brown maker, paper towels. *Note use more paper towels under it to make it look more full, also DON'T paint the paper towel or else it will get crusty.* The fence is made out of popsicle sticks, hot glue, brown watercolor. *Note: A little trick when painting the fence is to use watercolor so you can still see some of the pattern of the natural wood.* The river is made out of different shades of blue clay. *Put a little water on your finger to blend the colors together* Then I put pebbles around it. I added some cows, hay bails, and pigs to finish it off. *You don't need to add this to your backyard.*

The Bedroom

The dog bed is very simple to make. *When making the dog bed make it proportioned to the dog.* The dog bed is made of popsicle sticks, hot glue, yellow paint, ripped up cotton balls. Next is the desk. The desk is made of popsicle sticks, hot glue, wooden dowels, black maker, tin foil, paper. The chair is made of popsicle sticks, black paint, and hot glue. *Check before gluing that your chair with fit under the desk* The burrow is made out of popsicle sticks, hot glue, and brown paint.*you might want to add some of the wooden blocks underneath if the burrow doesn't stand by itself* The bunk bed is made out of popsicle sticks, hot glue, felt, wooden cubes, tooth picks, and brown paint. *I used baby blue to match the bedroom wall paper.* The rug is made out of a piece of fluffy felt that you can get at Micheals.

Dining Room

The dining room table and chair is made of wooden cubes, hot glue and brown and black paint. *If you get parchment paper when you glue the cubes together and push down they will come out more flat and table like* The chairs and benches are made up of Popsicle sticks, hot glue and back paint. *Make sure the chairs and benches aren't too tall or too short* The accessories you see on the table, you can find them at Micheals. *On any local craft store*

This is the living room, the living room has a rug, bean bag, 2 couches, a dog bed, coffee table, tv, and fireplace. The things you will need to make the living room is Popsicle sticks, hot glue, wooden cubes, clear plastic sheets ( you can get them at most craft stores), the rug, felt any color will work but I chose white to go with the theme, needle and thread, cotton balls, pink gray black paint. (optional) paper cut outs of a fireplace, dog, flowers (to match my theme), and for accessories you can add a tv and a mini deck of cards. To make the couches you will need to use cubes, sticks, hot glue and cotton balls.*You can also paint them to cover up imperfections* For the bean bag you will need to cut out a square piece of felt and sew an oval with the needle and thread stuff it with cotton balls and sew the rest. Cut off the exass a boom, done!

Bathroom

The bathroom has a toilet, sink, and a bathtub. The materials you will need to make the bathroom are popsicle sticks, hot glue, yellow felt, foil, wooden cubes, checker duck tape, and silver or reflection duct tape. For the wall paper use duckie wall paper and then a pink gradient wallpaper (like the one in the living room) * you don't need to add an accent wall*

Kitchen

The kitchen contains the island with 3 stools, counter with stove and oven, microwave, sink, and fridge. What you will need to make the kitchen is popsicle sticks, hot glue, foil, index cards (for the stools), black, gray, dark gray, white paint. You will also need paper with a picture with mugs on it and one that says "YUM!" If you want to add accessories you can add mini pots and pans, a cheese board.

  1. Tips
  2. For the island table leave a little space to be able to slide the chairs under so there not in the middle of nowhere
  3. Add plates of glued together popsicle sticks to make it look like cabinets or drawers

The Wallpaper and Floor

Even though I don't have any pictures of the wallpaper it is paper that you can get at Micheals. You can see in the other pictures. I bought many types of "wallpapers" which include, hardwood floor, pink and blue gradient, brick wallpaper, and rubber duckie wallpaper. I also bought checkered duct tape for the bathroom floor.

That's It!

Well that's my house and what you need to make all the accessories you can find at your local craft store or Micheals. For the little designs I picked my photos out on a document, croped them to the right size and printed them out. Also make sure everything is proportioned to everything because you don't want a small table but then a massive chair. Thank you for reading!
