Necronomicon

IMG_2357.JPG

The Necronomicon or book of the dead comes in many versions.

I used the version of the first Evil Dead movie.

Materials:

Art Journal with hard cover. Got this one at Wal-Mart for $9.99 (I found out later they have some for $5.00) Look for the reference image and select the one you prefer Printer Paper Acrylic colors I used Tan, brown, black and red. Fiberglass hardener or white glue (If you want you can use Mod Posh) Toilet paper or paper clay

Start With the Art Journal

Search and print the images you will need to make your own Necronomicon.

Place your art journal or hard cover notebook down with the cover as shown. Put some glue on the cover.

remember to protect your surface or you will have glue on your table.

Paste Your Prints

Paste your print and make sure to center them accordingly.

Wait for them to dry.

Check the book and pose for a selfie.

Hopefully you printed more than one copy to use as reference and to cover the edge of the book as in the third picture..

Add some glue/Water mixture for protection of the next step to avoid ripping the pasted printed image.

Texture and Coloring

Make sure to prepare the toilet paper with water and glue to

make a paste. (You can also use paper clay in this section

Start molding the texture of the stretched face of the book and the wrinkles

I mixed the toilet paper with the paint to see it better. You can always paint it later.

Once it dries you can paint the details and make it as close as the reference image you got.

Finishing Touches and Protecting Your Art

After the sculpting and paint has dried, coat it with the fiber glass hardener or the glue/water mixture or Mod Posh if you want. This protects the paper sculpting. I chose the fiber glass because it gives it a super hard coat. (Make sure to work in a ventilated area and wear a mask because the fiber glass hardener smells and I am sure it is toxic

Finish

Once it is dry, be careful to say the words. My son had
trouble remembering them and look what happen.

Hope you like.

Total time for the project: 2 Hrs.

Drying time: 6 hrs. Fiber glass hardener and 1 to 2 hours if you use Mod Posh or glue/water mixture,

After you finish make sure to recite the following spell to avoid opening a portal of the dead: Klaatu barada nikto
