HELLO! So, this is only the second needle felting tutorial I have made so far so please tell me if I am missing any steps or doing it wrong. Anyways, if you haven't figured it out yet, this Instructable will be teaching you how to make a felted mushroom. It's super simple, super easy, and can be used for so many things. I will not be showing this part, but if you desire a fall-themed key chain, please do so! I would love to see what else you can come up with in addition to this simple pumpkin.

Supplies

You will need the following to make this pumpkin. I would've added the link to buy off of Amazon, but I had really bad internet while I was making this.

  • Orange Felt
  • Brown Felt
  • Green Felt
  • Felting Needle (Do not use a regular sewing needle, it won't work.)
  • Awl (Optional)
  • Key Chain (Also optional)

Stab

Okay, so first grab your orange felt and roll it up very tightly so it looks like the first picture above. Then, grab your needle and start stabbing your wool into a ball. I really doen't matter what it looks like yet. If you haven't seen the second picture take a good look at it and compare it to the finished project.

Trim

So, I'm not even sure if people do this step or if it shouldn't even be done, but I do this so I'm just going to share. I took scissors and just trimmed the furry parts of the pumpkin so it looks like the picture above.

Poke

OKAY, so I am having quite a difficult time coming up with these step titles but let's move on anyway! So this step is super easy. All you have to do is find the top of the ball you created and poke a hole. It should look like the picture above.

Divide...?

So with your needle, poke four lines starting from the dot you made in the last step to the bottom. Because I am so bad at explaining this kind of stuff, look at the picture. The picture will put it so much more simpler than me. Once you divide your pumpkin into four, cut those four in half so you have eight sections to the pumpkin so it looks like the second picture.

Stem

This step should be easy. All you have to do is grab your brown and poke it into a cylinder. After that is complete, stab it into the main piece.

GRASS

So for this step, it's kind of like choose your path, so you can pick from three options: use a single color green felt, mix multiple colors of felt together, or buy your own multi-colored felt from Amazon and get it in a few days. If you picked the second one, there really isn't much to this step. Pick your colors (like the picture above) and mix them. I actually used a lime green and a teal-ish blue but it turned out green when finished mixing. Then loosely poke your green wool into the bottom of the pumpkin.

DONE!

I hope you had as much fun making this as I did sharing! If you liked this tutorial, the link for another needle felted creature I made will be listed below. Thanks!
