Newspaper Chandelier

This is a fun project if you are looking to create a chandelier-ish light that will look different than anything you could ever find in a store! This project altogether about ten hours spread over a couple of days. This does not take much skill to create, all you need to be able to do is use a hot glue gun and roll newspaper, then you're set! It can be very time consuming, but, worth it in the end.

For this project you will need the following items:

-Newspaper

-White Elmers glue

-Light pendant kit

-Light bulb

-Spray paint (Whatever colors you choose, I chose white, gray, and some spots were green and pink)

-Scissors

-Paint brush

-Bowl

-Hot glue gun

This is what you will use to secure your newspaper rolls. You will mix together glue and water in a bowl and mix together. You want to have just about 3/4 part glue and 1/4 part water.

This is the most time-consuming part of the whole project. If you do not figure out a method for this it will take even longer. My tip is to fold a small piece of the newspaper in, by doing this you have a piece to hold onto while rolling the newspaper. To secure the rolls you need to mix your use your glue and water mixture and apply using a paint brush. I recommend also covering the entire stick with the glue mixture to really be sure they stay intact.

You want to be the stick shave dried before next steps so that the spray is able to stick and look nice. So allow all the sticks to dry before spray painting them.

This step is fairly simple. Just spray paint the rolls of newspaper after the glue has dried. Choose whatever color you'd like. Most of my sticks were white with a little bit of gray, but I also had a few smaller sticks that I made green and pink to add color to the light.

Be sure to allow the spray paint to dry so that you know the sticks are ready. I recommend letting them mostly dry so you can touch them and then flip them over and spray paint the other side. But, before you begin using the sticks make sure they are fully dry.

I recommend first putting all of your stick together with nails or pins, this is not required but highly recommended. This will help you get an idea of how you'd want it to look and if it will fit where you want it to be in the end.

Now that you know how you want your project to look, you can begin gluing your piece together with hot glue.

To make it look a little more fun I also added some small colorful pieces to the project around the frame.

Your light is done and ready to hang! I recommend hanging this on some hooks attach to the ceiling to hang the light.

You now have a great light that looks totally different than anyone else's!
