No Sew Fabric Wall Pocket

If you're one of those people who's constantly losing their glasses, keys, phone, and other tiny modern life necessities, the best thing to do is to have a consistent home for those things. Using embroidery hoops and fabric scraps (here we used interior design sample swatches), this 20 minute craft will give you an easily hangable wall pocket to put next to your desk, front door, etc. It also doubles as wall decoration--maybe a little more than that pushpin you currently hang your key on. It's okay, we've all been there. We're here to help.

For this project you'll need:

Embroidery hoop (any size works, your choice)

2 pieces of fabric (different patterns or the same)

Scissors

Glue gun (clearly ours is well-loved)

Glue sticks

This is the really fun part--play around with your fabric scrap pile to see which pieces you like together. You can make the background and the pocket the same color/pattern, but we really like to shake it up with different patterns and textures. Once you've chosen, line them up in the hoop as shown above (a really functional pocket size goes a little over the halfway point of the hoop). Make sure the fabric is really tight to begin with, as it'll stretch out a little with use.

To avoid raw edges, we used the surged edge of the fabric sample as the edge of the pocket. If you don't have an already surged edge or the means to do so, by all means cheat and fold the pocket fabric over double so the crease is the top edge.

Follow the edge of the embroidery hoop, making sure to have a gluing allowance of about 1/2-3/4 inch off the edge of the hoop.

Do the same with the pocket fabric, but leave a little more allowance since it'll be folded over the background fabric in a later step.

Pull the fabric tight and hot glue it in sections to the inner wood of the hoop. It won't take too much glue, but make sure it's attached securely so it won't show from the front.

Repeat with the pocket fabric, making sure the ends are very securely glued so they don't pull up.

At this point, your wall pocket is ready to hang!
