No Sew Fleece Tie Blanket JIG
So i watched my sister and mom make a no sew tie blanket. what a pain in the @ss! you have to keep measuring and pinning needles and it took them hours to make blankets. so i came up with this jig, that is cheap and folds for storage.
STUFF YOU WILL NEED-
- 2 sheets of 1/4" masonite
- a piece of sheet rubber
- contact cement
- aluminum tape or duct tape
TOOLS YOU NEED-
- drill
- speed square
- 1/2" drill bit - i used a mortise bit
- tape measure
- colored pencil with bright lead
- scrap 1x wood to make a saw jig
- chalk line or long straight edge
Getting Started
- cut the masonite in to 2 pieces 30x50 and 1 piece 12x60
- when you put them together it will be 60x50
- use the tape measure and mark 4" on each corner and snap a line to connect them.
- then after that mark 1" then 1/2" then 1" then 1/2" untill you reach the other end. do all 4 sides.
- take the speed square and mark lines.
- take the 1/2" bit and drill a hole at the end of every 1/2" mark like in the photos.
Cutting the Groves
- take the scrape 1x and make a jig that slides down the masonite but extends out to keep the back of the saw straight.
- go around the masonite and cut all the lines to connect to the holes that were drilled.
- take the 12" piece and mark, drill, and cut the same way.
- find center of the 12" piece and make a handle.
- cut the rubber to go about 12' on each side.
- glue the masonite and the rubber wait till all most dry then stick together and tape the edges.
Use It
- unfold on kitchen table
- spreed both layers of fleece out on top of it
- set the 12" jig on top and cut the fleece between each wood groove
- do all for sides and remove top jig
- all you need to do is tie all the pieces and DONE!
- you can do a blanket in 15 to 20 minuets.
