No Sew Tote

IMG_5751.JPG

My daughter's Barbies' have so many accessories that they needed a fully working tote. The ones in the store are made from a rigid plastic and they can't keep stuff inside. Then one day at the toy store she saw a Barbie that had one fabric tote and she begged me to buy it (just because of the tote). So we agreed that I'll came up with something that she can make.

I made this one with simple steps so that she can make it by herself.

Cut a 9x5 cm rectangle. Fold and glue the two short sides as shown in the picture.

Fold it in half be sure the good sides are facing each other.

Glue both long sides.

Press them with your fingers or put a heavy book in top. While you follow step 2.

Make the Strap

First cut three 45 cms pieces of yarn. And make a braid. We used a mitten clip to help hold one end.

Once it's all braided, tie the ends.

Attach the Strap

Cut a rectangle of cardboard or paper and place it inside the tote.

First glue the knot to the bottom of the tote.

Continue sticking the braid making sure both sides are symmetrical. Place it under the book for at least 2 minutes.

Same Technique, Different Styles

That's it! Now make many more with different fabrics, yarns and make your own designs by gluing the strap on different ways.
