Old God Mini Lamp
Another final for another class has rolled around and this time i've decided to use 3D printing as my means of production. I've decided to print a model of a character from the Warcraft Universe; C'thun! complete with an eyeball that shoots light out of it (it's just an LED though ;) ).
Supplies
Arduino Uno
1 four prong RGB LED
Breadboard (optional)
Colored Wires
Step 1: Modeling
First things first, you will have to pick a software to use for 3D modeling. For this simplified model i decided that using Tinkercad would be easiest. For this step it would also be worthwhile to sketch out on paper what you want this to look like, or look up image references.
Step 2: Save and Export
Once you have the model in good shape, go up to the top right an export your model. For 3D printing purposes, you are going to want to export this model as an .STL file specifically.
Step 3 : Pre Print Prep
Now that you have a viable .STL file, it's time to import it into some type of 3D printing software. For my final print I used a makerbot 3d printer, and Makerbots have their own proprietary software, so I used their program.
In the program it allows you to double check that the dimensions of your model will actually fit onto the printer, so that you can edit the model if need be. It will also give you an estimate for how long the print will take, and if you so please, manually adjust how fast the printer moves, and set the temperature.
Step 4: Print Time
Now that you have a stable model in the form of an .STL file, it's time to initiate the print.
For Makerbots, they require that you insert an SD card with the .STL file physically into the printer. You can then manually select the print from the control's that are present on the front of the Makerbot.
Once you select your file, it will begin to print. My final print took 2 and a half hours.

Step 5 Electronics
Congratulations! at this point you should have a fully printed piece to work with.
Now it's time to whip out your tech. I've placed images of what your circuit should look like before placing it in the eye of the old one. Be careful of causing and electric shocks to yourself.
After getting the base wiring down you will need a little bit of code to mess around with the RGB LED.
which I also will place here.
Step 6 : THE EYE
Now that everything is set, all that is left is to place the LED within the eye of the model and mess around with what colors you want to UNLEASH THE POWER OF THE OLD GOD UPON THIS WORLD ONCE MORE
