This is a desk and stool made from a single sheet of 4' x 8' x 3/4" plywood. It is handy for a little study or work area.

Supplies

  • 4' x 8' x 3/4" sheet of plywood
  • circular saw
  • saber saw (optional)
  • wood glue
  • 2" wood screws
  • measuring tape
  • electric drill & bits
  • paint or varithane

Measure and Cut

Using the dimensions shown on the pdf file diagrams, draw all the cut lines onto the plywood sheet. Draw them as shown on the diagrams. Cut on the lines. Since the pieces are cut on the lines the pieces will be slightly smaller due to the saw kerf.

Cut Out the Stool Side Panels

Once the desk side panels have been cut out, measure and draw the stool side panel size and position onto the desk side panels. Note that I decided to round off the corners. I just used a spray paint can and traced around it to get the rounded corners. You may want to use a saber saw to cut these so you can get the rounded corners on the stool panels. The corners of the desk side panels can now be rounded as well if you prefer.

Assemble the Desk

The diagrams show the positions I used to place the shelves, desk top, and support pieces. These can be anything you like. For example, you may want to use the 6" x 32" support piece as another shelf and use the two 3" x 32" pieces in its place. Drill pilot holes for the wood screws, glue the plywood edges, and screw everything together.

Assemble the Stool

Stool assembly is done by using the positions of the stool pieces as shown on the front, side, and top view diagrams. Then screw and glue it all together.

Wood Finish

With the desk and stool assembly complete, they can be painted or given a coat of varnish. When the paint or varnish has dried have a seat and get to work on your next Instructable using your new desk.
