Opening a Maxtor Basics Desktop Storage Casing

So you have this kinda HDD that you wanna pry it open. But wondering how to.

I was wondering myself. I had to open this piece up because the power supply did not work properly and I need to change the exterior casing and power supply circuit. I tried to look for any manual or instruction to open it up but to no avail.

So I gave it a try. And to help others, this is the way to do it.

And gonna make it simple and straight forward. All you need is a flathead screwdriver (or something similar).

Unscrew the Casing

At the back of the external HDD, you will find a sticker that covers the only screw that is outside of the casing.

Unscrew this first.

Side Panel

The next step is to pry open the side panel. To do this is kinda tricky. You need a flathead screwdriver, but be careful not to damage the latches.

You can see from the picture where you need to pry it open.

Once the side panel is off, you are pretty much halfway there.

Other Side...

The other side of the HDD has 3 latches.

Pry them open with a screwdriver as well.

Front Side

The front side has 2 latches that need to be pried open.

After that you can just pull the indicator LED upwards.

...and the Rest...

...is pretty much self explainable. You just hafta unscrew here and there.

Happy repairing!!!
