final.jpg

This instructable shows how to make an origami rose headband

This includes the following

  • Making the rose petals
  • Making the sepals
  • Decorating and assembling the rose on the headband

Tools and Materials

1.jpg
  1. Full size red origami paper (here we use 21 cm x 21 cm )
  2. 1/4 size green origami paper (11.5 cm x 11.5 cm)
  3. Headband
  4. Ribbon (to be glued on the headband)
  5. Hot glue gun
  6. School glue
  7. Super glue
  8. Scissors
  9. Tweezers (optional)

Find the Reference Point

Fold the 21 cm x 21 cm paper in half.

Then fold it in half again so that you get 4 square shapes. On one of the squares (left one in the photo), fold along the two diagonal lines. The cross point is the reference point to be used in the next step.

Cut the Pentagon Shape

Use the reference point we found on step 1 ( point B) , fold the paper so that point A will be on top of point B

Notice that the middle (point C) is not the same as point D

Cut it along the line so that you can get a perfect pentagon shape out of the origami paper.

Start Folding the Petals

At the end of previous step, you get a perfect pentagon shaped origami paper.

This pentagon will be the body of the rose.

Grab the pentagon origami paper from the middle, making it stand up like a star.

Notice the yellow line? Fold it from the yellow line. The width of the line actually depends on how you want the rose to feel. In this demonstration, I folded it about 1cm wide.

After you finish folding all five sides, you will get something similar to the 4th photo.

We can now flatten it so that you get a pentagon with folded sides again, as seen in the last picture.

First Layer of Petals

Flip the pentagon over.

Now pinch the paper along the lines and swirl-fold the paper.

After you finish all five sides, flip it over again, and you'll have a very basic rose-like flower.

The last photo is from the side.

Making the Second Layer of Petals

Unfold the flower and re-fold it again along the lines.

At the end of this step, you will have a cylinder shaped rose.

Fold Down the Petals

To finish each petal, curl the outer petals tip down.

After finishing all the petals, you'll have a rose.

Adjust Each Petal

Making the Calyx

Following step 2 to cut the 1/4 size origami paper to pentagon shape, grab it from the middle and make it into a 5-point star, as seen in the picture above.

Continue the Calyx

Flip it to the side.

Fold each sepal along the line and flatten it.

You should see a diamond shape at the end of this step.

Continue the Calyx

Fold inward along the lines.

Then flip the sepal upward.

After finishing all 5 sepals, you will get something that looks like the last photo.

Continue the Calyx

Follow the line and pull the side out like a pocket

Fold the sepals as line demonstrates.

Finish all five sides.

Adjust it so it looks more life-like.

Assembling and Finishing the Headband

After you are finished with the flower and the calyx, glue and wrap the ribbon on the headband.

Use the glue gun to glue the rose on the calyx, and then secure the flower on the headband.

You have an origami rose headband now!
