PVC CHAIR Materials (insert Material Picture)
To build a PVC chair you will need:
BASE:
- 18.7in PVC pipe (4)
CONNECTORS:
- 12in PVC pipe (8)
- 6in PVC pipe (4)
FOOT REST:
- 19in PVC pipe (4)
- 6in PVC pipe (2)
- 3in PVC pipe (2)
- 6.34in PVC pipe (2)
SEAT:

Creating a PVC Pipe
-Click on top plane
-Click edit sketch and make sure it’s on the circular diameter
-Click once then drag out the outside of the circle and hit smart dimensions
-Click on the outside of the circle and edit the circumference and then type in your specific measurement
-Click save sketch by clicking the icon on the top right
-Click on the "Features" tab under the main toolbar
-Select the "Extruded Boss/Base" feature
-Click on to the "Depth" icon (red arrow) and extrude to your desired length
-Click on save and the exit featured mode
-Click the circular face of the pipe
-Click edit sketch and make sure it’s on the circular diameter
-Click once then drag out the outside of the circle and select smart dimensions
-Click on the outside of the circle and edit the circumference to your specific measurement
-Click save sketch by clicking the icon on the top right
-Click on the "Features" tab under the main toolbar
-Select the "Extruded cut” feature
-Click on to the "Depth" icon (red arrow) and extrude to your desired length
-Click on save and the exit featured mode

Mating PVC on Solidworks
Step by step instructions on how to mate PVC pipe
- Click mate
- Highlight the circular FACE of the pipe by click on it
- Highlight the circular face of the inner lip by holding the control key and clicking on it
- Click mate
- Click the green check
- Highlight one of the axis
- Click the glasses button on the top right
- Click the grey dotted line in the glasses
- Mate it to the other axis you want it to be aligned with
- Click mate
- Highlight the circular FACE of the pipe by click on it
- Highlight the circular face of the inner lip by holding the control key and clicking on it
- Click mate
- Click the green check
- Highlight one of the axis
- Click the glasses button on the top right
- Click the grey dotted line in the glasses
- Mate it to the other axis you want it to be aligned with
Our Sub-Divisions
Divide the chair into separate sub divisions to build separately, so when putting together the final PVC chair it is easier on you
- First sub division is the base of the chair (first layer)
- The base consist of 4 PVC pipes connected by 90 degree side outlets
- Second sub division is the foot rest that attaches to the base (second layer)
- The foot rest consist of a square with pipe in between for your feet to rest on
- Third sub division is the seat of the chair that hangs off the footrest (third layer)
- The seat consists of a rectangle with 3 pipes in between to sit on
- Fourth sub division is the arm rest and the back rest (last layer)
- The back rest and the arm rest are made of curved PVC
- First sub division is the base of the chair (first layer)

Bending PVC Pipe
- Plug in the PVC Bend It Machine and allow the coil to heat up for a couple minutes
- Slide the coil into the piece of PVC pipe you want to bend
- Rotate the PVC every 30 seconds for 4-5 minutes
- Remove the PVC out of the hot coil, using gloves
- Begin bending the PVC to desired bend immediately
- Use cold water on a rag to cool the PVC pipe down
- Slide the coil into the piece of PVC pipe you want to bend

Creating the Base
- To create the base we used 19in PVC pipe and 90 degree side outlets. Connect each 19in PVC pipe to the 90 degree outlet until you have a complete square as seen below.

Putting in Connectors for Foot Rest
- In the top of every 90 degree side outlet, insert 6in PVC pipe
Putting Fittings on the Connectors
- On the back side of the foot rest, attach tee side outlets to the 6in PVC pipe
- On the front side of the foot rest, attach 90 degree side outlets facing downwards to the 6in PVC pipe
- On the front side of the foot rest, attach 90 degree side outlets facing downwards to the 6in PVC pipe
Making the Foot Rest
- On either sides of the foot rest insert a 19in PVC pipe thats connected to the tee side outlets and the 90 degree side outlets
- Sticking out of the other side of the tee side outlet goes a 6.34in PVC pipe
- Connected to the 6.34in PVC pipe is a tee fitting
- Off of the tee fitting is 3in PVC pipe
- A tee side outlet is connected to the 3in PVC pipe
- Off of the fitting is a 6in PVC pipe to complete the foot rest of the chair
- Sticking out of the other side of the tee side outlet goes a 6.34in PVC pipe
- Connected to the 6.34in PVC pipe is a tee fitting
- Off of the tee fitting is 3in PVC pipe
- A tee side outlet is connected to the 3in PVC pipe
- Off of the fitting is a 6in PVC pipe to complete the foot rest of the chair
Finishing the Foot Rest
- Attach 19in PVC pipes to the opening sides of the Tee fittings, to create a ladder look that's going to be used for the foot rest
Second Level of Connectors
- After completing the foot rest, insert 12in PVC pipe to each of the open fittings sticking upwards
- This creates the second of the chair

Putting on the Seat Fittings
- On the top of each 12in PVC connector pipe, place a tee side outlet fitting
Connecting the Seat
- Off of the 90 degree side outlet in the back of the chair, attach 4in PVC pipe on both sides
- Connected to the 4in PVC pipe are tee fittings
- Connected to the tee fittings are 5.3in PVC pipe that is also attached to the side opening in the 90 degree side outlet
- To make that ladder look again insert 3 more 19in PVC pipe that will be where you sit
- Connected to the 4in PVC pipe are tee fittings
- Connected to the tee fittings are 5.3in PVC pipe that is also attached to the side opening in the 90 degree side outlet

Attaching the Arm Rests (include the Picture in 14)
- In the opening of the two tee side outlet, attach 12in PVC pipe
- On top of the 12in PVC pipe, put on tee fittings
- Out of the front tee fitting put the bent PVC pipe that originally measures to 28in, before bending and attach it to the tee side outlet that is on the front of the seat
- On top of the 12in PVC pipe, put on tee fittings
- Out of the front tee fitting put the bent PVC pipe that originally measures to 28in, before bending and attach it to the tee side outlet that is on the front of the seat
Attaching the Back Rest
- The back rest of the chair, that was originally 36in before bending, connects to the remaining holes of the tee fitting
- The bent PVC makes an arch that is comfortable to lean on too
