Panama Hat for Barbie

Today I'll show you how to to make this beautiful hat called Panama, that will be the perfect size for Barbie.

These hats are a must have summer accessory. They're stylish, lightweight and match with everything. So why not give Barbie this staple accessory?

And did you know despite their name they aren't from Panama? This is what Wikipedia says:

"A Panama hat (toquilla straw hat) is a traditional brimmed straw hat of Ecuadorianorigin. Traditionally, hats were made from the plaited leaves of the Carludovica palmata plant, known locally as the toquilla palm or jipijapa palm. Despite their name, Panama hats have never been made in Panama."

 Gather Your Materials

Thin rope or yarn. Yarn works better because it's more flexible, but a thin rope that's not too stiff will be good too.

Black construction paper

Scissors

Glue gun

A disposable aluminum foil tart pan. Mine is from frozen mini tart shells. Its diameter is 6cm.

Shape the Pan

Squeeze gently the pan so that it takes the shape of the hat. It's going to be easy because the foil is very malleable.

Glue the Yarn

Glue the yarn, begin at the brim and work your way up in a spiral. As shown in the picture.

When you finish this part cut the yarn and now cover the brim.

Once you finish don't cut the yarn, flip the hat and cover the bottom part of the brim. Leave the centre without yarn. As shown in the last picture.
