Parrot Security OS Beginner Tutorial

Welcome to a tutorial on how to download and begin working with Parrot Security OS (If you plan on using Kali Linux, most, if not all, of the process will be the same for you). In this tutorial I'll show you how to get VirtualBox up and running and get Parrot Security OS running in a "Virtual Machine".

Download VirtualBox

To begin this project you will need to go to https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads and download a version of VirtualBox that is correct for the machine and OS you have. VirtualBox is useful because it allows you to create a "Virtual machine" inside of your computer, which allows you to run another operating system in unison with the one you already have. This also provides extra security because if the Virtual Machine happens to break, or if someone hacks into the Virtual machine, the VirtualBox will prevent these problems from easily affecting the rest of your computer.

Download the ISO Image for Parrot Security OS

For this part you need to go to the parrot security website and download a version of Parrot Security OS that fits your needs. ENSURE THAT THE FILE IS AN ISO FILE. If the file isn't an ISO file then you won't be able to boot the OS in VirtualBox.

Add New OS to VirtualBox and Name It

Now you need to go into VirtualBox and click on the "New" option. When you get into the new option you don't need to change any options, except the RAM and dedicated memory, but I will make a separate tutorial for that.

Add Parrot Security OS Image File

At this point you should have a memory space allocated on VirtualBox that is named something that you'll be able to remember. Now you will need to go into the settings and go to storage. In storage you will see an empty disk file, click on the disk file and go over to the disk on the right side of the screen and click the drop down bar. here you should see your ISO file for Parrot Security OS, if you don't, just click browse and go to "Donloads" and you should see it there.

Finishing the Parrot OS Setup

For this final step you just need to click "install parrot" in the top left corner and choose to erase the Hard Disk and let Parrot OS install. This step can take a while because the download is fairly slow, for this part you should go take a break and let the computer finish up.
