Pasta Pie

What can you love more than a little pie made fully with pasta? We are doing a different version of the usual pies, no dough involved only pasta!

You can decide your sides, I will show you my two favourite versions.

You need your usual kitchen tools, I will show you that even with no specialised tools you can be a very fancy cook!

Supplies

  • 100 gr of Spaghetti
  • 100 gr of Rocket
  • 50 gr of Parmesan Cheese
  • 15 gr of Olive oil
  • Garlic
  • A handful of Cashew Nuts
  • A can of chopped tomatoes
  • (Greek yogurt if you prefer to do this without tomato sauce, or any other sauce you prefer!)

Prepare the Filling

Place the rocket, cashew nuts and parmesan in a mixer. Start mixing. Add the oil oil and continue to mix up until you have a very fine sauce. Add the sauce in a pastry bag and place in the fridge.

Cook the Pasta

Cook your pasta by following the instructions on your bag. Place the pasta aside and let it cool down.

Prepare the Sauce (or Not!)

Only if you want the sauce! If you prefer yogurt, skip this step!

Start by preparing the sauce. Place some olive oil in a pan with a clove of garlic. Let it fry for a couple of minutes and add the chopped tomatoes can and few fresh tomatoes. Add the salt (and pepper if you like!). Let it cook for 20 min, and blend the sauce.

Prepare the Mould

To prepare the mould, I took a cookie cutter and I covered it with aluminium foil two times. Make sure that there are no holes in it. Take some baking paper and cut a square (bigger than the size of your cookie cutter). Cut the edges following the diameter of your cookie cutter. Place the baking paper inside and cut any paper excess.

Your DIY mould is ready!

Shape the Pies

This now can be a bit time consuming but it will be very cool once done.

Let`s start by shaping our pies. Follow the video above to get an idea of how to do this.

Take a spaghetti and start rolling it to resemble a wheel. Place it into your mould and continue rolling with your next spaghetti. Make sure that the end of the last one you rolled is aligned with the beginning of the next one. Continue until you cover all the sides of the mould.

Little tips

  1. if the spaghetti gets sticky, wet your fingers with a bit of water.
  2. if the end of the spaghetti that you just rolled doesn`t stick to the beginning of the next spaghetti you are going to roll, don`t panic! As you go around the second time the spaghetti will hold by itself.
  3. Place your pies in the fridge for 15 min after finished

Fill the Pies

Take the pies out of the fridge and start filling them with a bit of leftover pasta and the green sauce that you created.

Prepare the top of your pie, roll your spaghetti on a baking paper (look at the pic!) and place it on the top of your filled pie.

Cook the Pies

A bit of DIY again if you don`t have a Bamboo steamer!

Take a bit pot and add 3 fingers of water. Place a strainer on top (make sure it doesn`t touch the water), cover the bottom of the strainer with come baking paper and cover the entire setting with a lid.

You can place your pies inside, cover them and let them cook for 10 min.


Eat the Pies!

Take the pied outside of their mould and either dip them in your sauce or add some yogurt and nuts. You can use every sauce you like! Cut it and enjoy!
