The supplies you will need for this painting are:

  • Red Paint
  • White Paint
  • Orange Paint
  • Yellow Paint
  • Brown Paint
  • Light Green Paint
  • Dark Green Paint
  • Canvas (any size)
  • Paintbrushes

If you want to replicate this painting with any other colors that is totally fine! You just need a background color and dark, medium and light shades.

Coloring the Background

After you have gathered your supplies, take your yellow and white and mix them together for a pastel background color. Then, draw 3 separate shapes for the basic size of your flowers. You will draw 2 circles, one triangle and one small oval to replicate the flowers.

Sketching the Flowers

Now, you can sketch the flowers. To draw the petals, start with rounded edges that come to a point. After that, draw lines from your flowers down to the bottom of the canvas. Add some leaves as well. If it does not look the best, don't worry! We will paint over it. We just need a guideline for where the petals end and begin.

Next, we will begin to paint the flowers.

For this style of painting, I suggest to not move your brush back and forth too much. That will cause your paint to mix into one color. For example, when you sketch something, you take your pencil and make very small markings, each one touching the last. If you tried to do that with this painting, it would have thicker lines and not enough definition. I would suggest to take a thinner brush and use brushstrokes in one direction. This will not only allow better lines, but when blending the colors, it will not mix them too much.

Take the red and add it near the center of the flower. Make sure to not stroke your brush back and forth, but in one direction. You can fan out the red and add some longer streaks. When you add the longer streaks, make sure to add some curvature to the line. This will manipulate the lines and make it look like the petals are fanning outwards.

Adding the Orange

As you add the red, bring some orange to your painting. Above the red, use your brush and fan out the orange towards the center of the petal. You can bring some streaks of orange towards the red, but make sure the red is still visible. When you add these streaks, it prevents it from looking like one third is strictly red and one third is strictly orange.

Adding the Yellow

After adding the orange, we can add the yellow. At the tip of the petal, Fan out the yellow paint like you did with the orange and red. Keep it concentrated near the tip, but you can add some streaks of yellow near the red and orange.

Now, you can continue that process of adding the red, orange and yellow to each petal.

Starting the Other Flowers

We separated the steps for the flowers because these are 2 different angles. We will be starting on the other 2 flowers now. Just like before, we bring the red to the base of the flower, and occasionally fanning it out.

After finishing the base, use your sketch to see the edges of the petals. Add red to the edges and fill in the centers with orange, and the tips with yellow. Now, you can add some different streaks of color.

Starting the Stem

Take your dark green and add it to the bottoms of your stems and leaves. Add your light green and yellow paint on the tops of your stems and leaves. You can also add a streak here and there near the darker paint.

For the top 2 flowers, add some green paint to the very base. This will connect the flowers to the stems.

Adding the Seeds

Mix yellow and orange paint. Use that mixture to create 3 curvy lines coming out of the middle of your flower. then, go over it in white to make it more visible. You can take the white and add some of it to your stem.
