Peanut Butter Chocolate Bars

The Peanut Butter Bar recipe has been in my family for years. I remember making it at my Aunt's house when I was a little girl.

I have made a few adjustments to make it my own over the years. It is a very easy recipe and fun for kids of all ages to make. Also very easy to tweak to fit your personal taste.

The original recipe is as follows:

1/2 cup Peanut butter (creamy is the best to work with)
1 1/2 cup Sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs
1 cup flour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all ingredients. DO NOT GREASE THE PAN. Bake in a 4 x 12x 2 pan for 25-30 minutes. Cut into squares.

Now as I have said before I have made some changes. They are:

1 cup chocolate chips

I bake in a 9 x 13 pan.

On other occasions I have also added melted chocolate and swirled it in, I have added all kinds of different nuts. Most anything is great mixed in it.

Mix all the ingredients, order does not matter. The butter is best if softened or melted.

When mixed it is kind of thick, this is normal.

Just remember DO NOT GREASE THE PAN. There is enough oil with the butter and peanut butter that it will not stick to the pan.... just your hips hehe.

Yummy.

Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown or a toothpick comes out clean.

I let mine cool for 15-20 minutes and then cut into squares.

I found that if i use a plastic knife to cut the squares, the bars cut smoothly and do not stick to the knife.
