Pen-holder

A mouse is a basic element in everyday's office work, serving as one of the basics to use a computer. However, these products tend to fail and have a relatively short useful life. So, in order to use at least some of the elements of the mouse instead of just throwing it away, here's a quick idea of how to turn the base of the mouse into a pretty looking holder for a pen, using the cable as a chord to keep the pen in the desk.

Supplies

-A mouse that no longer works

-A small screwdriver

-Scissors

-Any type of glue

-Pen

-Computer

-3D printer

Disassemble the Mouse

The first thing to do is to disassemble the mouse. Using the screwdriver or any other tools, we need to get rid of all the elements and leave only the plastic base and the cable. The base must be empty and the cable should not be attached to the electronics.

Print the Pieces

Download the three files attached and 3D print them. It is recommended that you print them in the highest quality possible, and with the least amount of supports possible, as the rail needs to move smoothly.

Put Everything Together

Once the print is done and clean, take the mouse base and put it in between pieces 1 and 2, using the small opening in the mouse base to get the assembly through. For permanent results put some glue in the slot of piece 2 before doing this. Once the pieces are together glue one side of the cable to the mouse base, and the other one to the pen. Then get piece 3 and assemble the rail. After that the piece is done.
