Perfecting You Posture for Violin

IMG_0411.jpg

This instructable is meant for beginner or beginner advanced people who want to perfect their posture.

You will need-

-A violin

- A violin bow

- A shoulder rest

Standing

You will want to stand up with your legs spread equally at shoulder width. This is good because it provides stability. Make sure to not lock your knees. If you play for an extended period of time (40~), while having your knees locked, you will most likely faint.

Positioning the Violin

Your violin should be at an angle but should not be either at a 12-o clock position, or a 9-o clock.

Neck Posture

You should place your jaw slightly tilted on the chinrest, in a position where you can see the strings without having to move your head and be able to see in front of you. There is more freedom on how much you lean your neck, but in general it should not be either too tilted or too upright.

Left Wrist

Your left wrist should be curved when you are not doing vibrato. In fact, vibrato is easier to do with a round wrist position. Your fingers should also be rounded.

Right Wrist Motions

When you are playing, you will want to bow with your right hand in a motion resembling checking the time on a watch, you only want to move your wrist and not your entire arm. Note the curvature in an upbow, and the more relaxed wrist in a down bow.
