Personalised BBQ Burger Press
In this instructable I’m going to show you how to make a 3d printed, personalised, burger press.
Add names, messages or favourite characters to your meat or veggie burgers.
Make BBQ time fun for the whole family
Design it, print it, press it, BBQ it 😊
We are going to use Tinkercad to design the burger press. It is an easy to use, free, online, 3d modelling resource that I highly recommend if you want to start 3d print designing. www.tinkercad.com
So lets get started.
**I was planning to add a photo of the pressed and cooked burger, but Sydney has just gone into two weeks of lockdown, essential trips only, so I couldn't get the ingredients :( I will add a photo once we are out the other side.
Design Your Base
A burger press is made up of two parts the base and the lid, or pusher.
Lets make the base first.
Add a cylinder and make it 120mm in diameter and 30mm high
Add a second cylinder, make this one 110mm in diameter and 27mm high and change it into a ‘hole’
Align the two cylinder to the middle on the x and y axes and the top on the z axis.
Group them together and you should have a cylindrical bowl shape.
Now lets add a personalised decoration that will be impressed onto the burger
Personalise Your Burger Press
You can choose whatever you would like to personalise your burger press. If you want to write a name or message you can use the Tinkercad text option. If you want to use a picture you can convert your picture into an svg file online and import it into Tinkercad.
*If you want to have words, add a text object, type the words you wish to appear on your burger and resize them to fit inside the base. Don’t make it too long or the words will not be clear.
*If you are using a picture import your svg and resize so that it is just smaller than the base.
Now make the height 7mm tall and rotate the object or text 180 degrees in the z axis so that it appears back to front.
Finally centre your text or object with the base and align to the bottom on the z axis and group.
That’s it your base is done.
Now lets make the lid
OPTIONAL EXTRA
Have fun playing with the shape of burger and the personalisation inside. Make large hexagonal burgers and tiny diamond shaped ones – add a name, a birthday wish or a child’s favourite toy shape.
Making the Lid
Add a cylinder 106mm wide and 6mm high.
**If you have made a different shaped burger base make your lid 4mm smaller in the x and y axes and 6mm high.
Add a cone shape, rotate by 180 degrees and centre it with the lid. This will be your handle.
Finally, if you would like you can add some cut outs to the under side of the lid. This will give you a pattern on the other side of your burger.
I have added some stars to go with a Harry Potter themed burger press 😊
Group the handle lid and cut out together and export your base and lid as stl files
Now to slice and print
Slicing and Printing
Import your stls into your slicer of choice and slice using your normal settings.
I suggest using food safe PETG filament for printing this burger press.
Now print your burger press and get that BBQ fired up!
Making Your Burgers
I use a simple recipe of mince, finely chopped onion, egg and seasoning for my burgers. You could also push ready made burgers into the press if you didn’t want to make the burgers from scratch.
We are currently in lockdown and I have no mince so can’t show you the finished burgers – so sorry ☹ Pictures will be added at a later date
Enjoy your personalised burgers
I have uploaded the Harry Potter press in case anybody would like to print it :)
