Pi Artwork

There's always art that can be found in math, in this project you can create your own unique artwork that's based on Pi!

Supplies

You'll need:

  • Graph paper
  • color pencils/markers
  • ruler

Draw a Frame

Draw a box with a pencil or other writing tool. This will be where you'll be coloring in.

Choose Colors

Choose 10 distinct colors to represent each of the 10 digits, from 0-9.

Make a Legend

Create a legend on the top (or bottom) of your page. Assign a color to each digit. This will be used to tell what each color in your art work is supposed to represent.

Color in the Grid

Now it's time to create your Pi Artwork. Color in each grid based on what number would have been written there. For example, the first 5 digits of pi are 3.1415, and in my legend 1 is red, 2 is red-orange, 3 is orange, 4 is yellow, and 5 is light green. So my first 5 squares are going to be colored in orange, red, yellow, red, light green.

Keep Coloring...

It's a long process but it's also really calming! You can color as many or as little rows as you like.

Finished!

Your Pi Artwork is done! You can frame it or put up on your wall. I colored in the first 400 digits of pi but you can always add more rows.
