Piedoodles

IMG1054.jpg
Ok yes, the title is silly, but since my mother never named this dessert, it's what I call it. My mom always made "alittle extra" pie dough and she made this for us kids as a treat, especially when the pie she was making was for church or a pot luck. I have made this several times just as she has with just "alittle extra" pie dough for my kids, but I have given this dessert a name.  This is one of the fastest, inexpensive & simplest kid friendly desserts you can make. This dessert is really yummy plus easy and quick to make in a pinch. I guarantee you will have all the ingrediants on hand at any given time to make this.

Ingrediants Needed

These are all the things you will need for this recipe. Honestly, this is it!
Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees

*Left over scraps of your Pie crust dough
 cinnamon to taste
2 Tablespoons - 1/4 Cup sugar(1/4 Cup is only if using a full pie dough)
1-2 tablespoons melted butter or margerine(if you prefer)
flour for working surface
knife or pizza cutter
rolling pin

* I will also be including the instructions on how to make pie dough incase you want to make a full batch for when your kids have friends over. If you don't need these instructions, skip over step 2 and proceed to 3.

 Simple Pie Dough recipe

2cups flour
2/3 Cup shortening( I like to use Crisco butter flavor sticks)
2Tablespoons butter
4Tablespoons ice cold water( i like to put mine in the freezer for a few mintues)

Mix flour, shortening and butter in a mixer or by hand until it is crumbly pea size bits

Slowly add 1 tablespoon of water at a time making sure to scrap the sides of the bowl to get everything incorporated.

Once everything is mixed and dough starts to form, take dough mixture to floured mat or or non stick surface and hand mix until ball is formed.( I like to use my Wilton Fondant mat)

Don't over handle the pie dough. If you do, wrap the dough in plastic wrap after you formed it into a ball and place in the fridge for a few mintues

Using rolling pin, roll out the pie dough

Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut up your pie dough into small square sections or If you want to get extra cute, you could even use cookie cutters and cut out shapes.

1. Spread melted butter over pie crust

2. Sprinkle cinnamon over pie crust

3. Sprinkle sugar over pie crust

* You remembered to preheat the oven to 400 degrees

Use a spatula, pick up pieces of the piedoodles and place them on a baking sheet.
Note: the baking sheet does NOT need to be greased

Bake piedoodles in oven at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes

Remove from oven and allow to cool for atleast 5 minutes.

Resist the urge to eat right away even though your kitchen now smells yummy sweet. I promise you, you will burn your tongue.

ENJOY!
