This Instructable is for anyone interested in Pier 9's CNC Shop.

Welcome to the Pier 9 CNC Shop! This shop is a great resource and this Instructable will show you how to successfully use it. We look forward to working with you!

The site cam.autodesk.com is your resource center for Autodesk CAM software.

There are two fully integrated CAD/CAM options:

• Inventor HSM Pro 2016
• Fusion 360 CAM

Both are great for beginners.

Additional CAM options:

• Delcam (to install the latest versions of DelCAM products, contact the CNC Lead Instructor)
  • good for advanced users and 5-axis operation

Why should you follow these steps and what you will learn?

• You'll be able to make 90% of the parts designed for a CNC milling machine.
• You'll learn CAM software and best practices.
• You'll learn High Speed Machining techniques that are normally only taught to advanced users.

Step 1 - Learn the Software and Milling Tools

• Complete steps 1 - 12 in Learn CNC The Hard Way
• Schedule time with the CNC Shop Lead to review tool paths for the above step
• Read Chapters 1 - 4 in the CNC Handbook

• Schedule time with the CNC Shop Lead to discuss the above training

Step 2 - Learn the Machine

• Take the Haas CNC Mill Class

Step 3 - Use the Machine and Software

• Machine the certification part in Learn CNC The Hard Way within one week of taking the class.

• Generate tool paths at your desk
• Handout for CNC machine (you are required to use it at all times)

Report broken tools to any Shop Staff member.

Don't interrupt others while setting up and operating a CNC machine.

Machine (Haas CNC lathe and mill) must always be in 5% rapid.

Get a lot of rest.
