Pinhole Camera

IMG_1181.jpg

Hello! This Instructable will teach you how to create a Pinhole Camera.

Supplies

Cardboard Boxes

Scissors

Tape

Black Permanent Marker

Tinfoil

Black Tape

Take a box and open it up so that the inside is revealed but the box itself is still in one piece.

Choose one face of the box and determine the center of that face.

IMG_1165.jpg

Use a small, sharp object, preferably a needle of some sort, to make a small hole in the center of your selected face, this will be your pinhole.

IMG_1163.jpg

Color the exposed inside of the box black using a marker.

IMG_1166.jpg

After the exposed inside is completely colored black, tape the box back together.

IMG_1167.jpg

Take a small, square piece of tinfoil and cover the pinhole with it.

Poke a small hole in the tinfoil and make sure that the pinhole in the tinfoil matches with the box's pinhole.

IMG_1169.jpg

Now that the tinfoil is in place, tape it to the box.

IMG_1171.jpg

Cut a slit into the top of the box.

Take a strip of cardboard.

IMG_1175.jpg

Measure the length of the box face with the slit as well as the faces at each side.

Cut the strip of cardboard until it is able to completely cover the box face with the slit and can partially cover the two faces at its sides, by covering the slit you will be able to make the inside of the pinhole camera completely, and by partially covering the sides you provide the strip with a place to be taped to so that it doesn't come off.

Tape the strip of cardboard to one of the boxes sides, stick a piece of tape to the other end of the strip so that when you load your light-sensitive photo paper you will be able to quickly tape the strip to the side.

IMG_1179.jpg

Take another piece of cardboard and cut it so that it is slightly longer and wider than the square of tinfoil, this piece of cardboard will be used to cover and uncover the pinhole.

IMG_1180.jpg

Fold a portion of this new piece of cardboard on each side, this way it will stick more easily when it is taped to the camera.

Apply tape to each of the folded ends of this piece of cardboard and stick it to the box face which has the pinhole, take care that the middle portion of the cardboard piece is covering the pinhole, it is okay for only one folded end of the cardboard to be attached to the box for now, but you will need to tape the other end to the box before you insert your light-sensitive photo paper and keep it that way until you are ready to take your picture.

Use black tape to cover up any openings in the camera.
