This is a paper maché piñata, it is a very simple project requiring only a few materials. WARNING: It can get very messy, and it takes about a day to dry.

The Mixture

To get the paper to stick to itself and the balloon you need something to make it stick, I like using flour and water, glue is also an option, but it's much messier.

Mix flour and water until the mixture is kind of like a thick soup, for me this was covering the bottom of the plate with flour and adding a quarter cup water.

Balloon Shaping

Take the balloon and inflate it to the desired size, do not inflate it all the way of the balloon will pop. To make it bigger you can tape balloons together. Now take your rubber band and pull them around the balloon to make it more circular.

Tear the Paper

While any paper works newspaper works best, tear the paper into 1.5" strips.

Cover the Balloon

Take the strips and dip them in the flour mixture, make sure both sides are covered, use your fingers to wipe off excess mixture, lay it on the balloon and smooth it out, repeat until the entire balloon is covered.

After it is covered clean up and let the balloon dry, when it is dry pop the balloon, pull it out if you want, cut a hole to fit whatever you want then tape it shut, this is a good time to use string to hang it, if you want to do this put the string under the tape.
