Polymer Clay Coaster - Stiches From Animal Crossing
Check out the video to understand the full prcess!
Supplies
Polymer Clay
Print out of your favourite animal crossing villiger
Craft knife
UV Resin and UV Lamp or Epoxy resin
Felt
Scissors
Super glue
Base
Find a villiger you want to make a coaster of, I used stiches, resize so that the head is big enough for a glass/cup to sit on with space around, mines roughly 10cm, print this out.
Using the print out as a template, make the base of the coaster - I chose the most prominent colour, in this case orange.
Roll out your clay so that it's slightly bigger than the print out and then use your finger tips to add a raised edge/lip, missing out the areas where the ears will go, we're going to add these later. The lip needs to be around 1/2cm or a quarter of an inch. This will hold the resin that will poured over, once the clay has cured.
Start Adding Facial Features
Next add onto your base, stiches has a patch of purple on the top, so I rolled this out and cut it to size then smoothed it onto my base.
I then did ther same for the mouth.
Make sure these aren't too thick, the raised edge/lip of the base needs to be taller than these otherwise they'll stick out when your pour the resin over.
Make the Ears
You want to make the ears the size of the ear including the surrounding colour, press the ears onto the base orange and onto the purple.
Next make two snake/worm shapes, and place these on top of the ear bases and smoothe the edges together onto the raised edge/lip.
Eyes and Nose
Lastly add the eyes and the nose, using the print out as a guide shape your clay accordingly and press onto your base in the right place.
Take care here once again making sure these aren't higher than the raised edge/lip so that when you pour the resin over the eyes, noe and mouth don't protude.
You will notice, if you watched the video, I made the mouth to thick so I had to cut it down with a craft knife and use a brown paint marker to colour over it.
Cure
Bake your polymer clay in the oven according to the manufacture instructions.
Addin the Resin
Once you have baked and cooled your clay you can then add resin.
I used UV resin and poured this straight from the bottle over the clay and then cured it with my UV light. Please feel free to use epoxy resin for this step.
Feet
Using felt, make 4 squares, I roughly cut these out with a pair of scissors, you could always draw out precise squares and then cut these out.
Stick them to the bottom of the coaster with super glue or silimar adhesive. The fit will give extra air circulation and also grip to the surface it's placed on.
Final Result
You can now use your coaster and place a drink of choice on top!
