How to Make a Pong, Brick Breaker, Tetris, Pacman Stop Motion Animation
Welcome to this creative animation. This consists of 4 games combined into one. The games are Pong, Brick Breaker, Tetris and Pac-Man, all combined into one game to complete the new game PongBrickRisMan.
Sketches and Ideas
The idea that I had was to combine all of the arcade games into one animation. My sketches show you some of the ideas I was working on. The idea changed a little as I filmed, but the main idea was to morph one game into the next.
Materials
- Paper Cutter
- Craft Foam Sheets (dollar store, Walmart)
- Craft Foam Shapes
- Paper for the templates
- Double-sided tape
- Scissors
- Stop Motion Camera
Making the Pieces
- Use the grid on the paper cutter to help make paper templates for the tetris pieces.
- Use scissors or the paper cutter to cut out the pieces for brick breaker and pac-man and pong.
Researching
I decided to do some research to see what each game was like. Each game had it's challenges.
PONG
Brick Breaker
Tetris
After watching the videos I decided that the first game I wanted to do was the game of Pong, since I knew I could transform Pong into the game Brick Breaker. Then I thought of transforming Brick breaker into tetris but with a twist. While playing brick breaker, tetris was being played as well. Once the bricks were hit by the ball they transformed into tetris and starting falling while brick breaker was still going on. I thought why not add Pac-Man into the mix, so I decided once all the bricks were hit by the ball, the ball would transform into Pac-Man and he would eat the last brick.

Setup and Animation
I decided to shoot the film on the paper cutter so that it looked like the pieces were being cut by the cutter. The paper cutter also had a useful grid on it that help line up all the pieces. I had to set the camera up at the right angle, so that everything would fit in the shot. I set it up on a tripod and taped to the table so that it wouldn't move.
