Portable Playstation 3 Case

20130509_224048.JPG
I like video games,  but i like to be in the room with the person I'm playing against.
at one point I got a file box, attached a 13" tv to the inside of the cover.
then i could put the games inside and take it to friends houses.

Then i saw Ben Heckendorn build his "That 70's Xbox", seen here http://revision3.com/tbhs/xbox1977_final.
I knew i needed to build something. A fancy one piece Playstation 3 console. I wanted it to be steampunk style wood and brass design, Other possible designs were a leather bound book looking case. or an aluminum briefcase like something from a spy movie. but it turned out more like an antique Victrola.

I started with a first generation PS3. I took the case off. I layed  it out on some oak i bought in pieces roughly the size i needed. "this was my first big woodworking project so i was not good with a saw". I thought that the blurays needed to load from the side, so i turned the bluray drive sideways," the data ribbon cable was really long in this model so it reaches pretty well. the power cable is shorter but i lengthened it later.

after i found the dimensions i needed, i cut the boards in 45 degree angles in the front and left them flush in the back so that a flip up door with air holes can be added.

i made aluminum brackets to hold the playstation in place and screwed it to the floor of the box.

i finished this build in 2011 and didn't think of taking more pictures further into the build. From here on out most of the pictures are from taking the unit apart again to show how its put together.

after i had the box constructed the fun part starts for me. Iv spent most of my life starting at 6 or 7, wiring things together, they rarely end the way they were on paper because i find better ways of doing things (taking power from a USB instead of a planned ac adapter) because of these types of things my schematics change completely before im done and they usually have so much crossed out that theyre not worth including. iv also lost the plans i made for this.
