Portable Shower Shelf

If you have ever been to the gym, a waterpark, or stay away camp, you might consider making one of these simple shower shelves. In many group locker rooms there is either lots of showers together with no shelves or a small shower stall with a wet shelf. There aren't that many options for where to put your shampoo, shower gel and conditioner. I dislike putting stuff on the floor because I don't really like having the water push my bottles toward the drain, so I created a shower shelf.

The shelf is made of a wash cloth so it will dry in my child's camp pack or swim bag. It keeps stuff off the floor which is much more sanitary than the alternative. Best of all if it gets dirty, the entire bag can go in the washer and dryer.

1. 12"X12" or 15"x15" wash rag (The one shown is an auto rag.)

2. Pins, thread, snips, sewing machine (not shown) and safety pin or threader (not shown).

3. Paracord or a shoe lace.

4. Lighter for melting paracord ends.

5. Spring cord lock. (I get these in the camping department as replacement parts. They are about 30 cents each this way.

Fold all four corners into the center as shown in the picture.

Pin all four sides about 1/2" to 3/4" inch from the side.

Sew each side at 1/2" seam allowance. Leave the corners free so that the paracord can go around the entire bag.

Do not cut paracord before you start threading. Using a threader or a safety pin, thread the paracord through each casing in sequential order so the cord goes around the entire bag. You will end up with the two ends next to each other.

Tighten the bag. If the free end of paracord is longer than about 10" pull the paracord out a little, so that the free end measures about 8"-10".

Trim the two ends even.

With a flame, carefully melt the cut end of the paracord.

Pinch lock clip so that the hole is lined up with itself.

Thread both ends of paracord into the lock clip.

Tie the two ends of the cord together.

Fill your bag with shower items then cinch bag shut.

Stow it in your stuff.

When you are ready to shower, hook cord over shower head or faucet then open the spring clip until it is close to the faucet or shower head so you can easily reach into the bag and it doesn't fall off the faucet or shower head.

The bag makes a secure shelf that makes your shower items easy to reach and keeps them sanitary.
