Many people will be giving or receiving flowers this Valentine’s day. But there is no reason why you have to put the flowers in a boring old vase. Why not put them in a poseable flower setting. It only takes a few minutes to set up and it lets you arrange the flowers in an unlimited number of ways.

Materials

12 flowers (Lighter flowers such as carnations work best.)
12 Water Tubes (available at most flower shops)
1 dish or bowl (at least 3 inches deep)
Sand (enough to fill the bowl.)

Fill the Water Tubes With Water

Fill the tubes with water so the water level is about 1/2 an inch from the top of the tubes. This should leave enough room so that the water won’t spill over the edge when you insert the flower stems.  After adding the water put on the rubber cap.

Insert the Flowers Into the Tubes

Insert the stem of a flower through the hole in the rubber cap of one of the water tubes. If the flower has a wide stem it might be a tight fit. Try to be gentle so that you don’t bruise the flower. Ideally you want the stem to go all the way to the bottom of the tube. However, if that is not possible try to get the bottom of the stem at least one inch below the water. Repeat this for each of the flowers.

Fill the Bowl With Sand

Pour your sand into the bowl. You want the sand to be deep enough so that you can insert the water tubes up to the bottom of the rubber cap.

Take one of the water tubes and the attached flower and slowly insert it into the sand. After the tube is all the way in the sand, slowly and gently reposition it. Tilt it to one side. Slide it sideways. The sand should be able to hold the flower in place. If the flower is too heavy, you may need to cut the stem a little shorter.
