Pretty Wreath From Old T Shirts
I had some old t shirts that I knew I would no longer wear. I really would rather make something out of the material than throw the t shirts away. I decided I could make a pretty wreath out of them since I had 2 red t shirts and 1 green t shirt. I knew I would enjoy having a pretty new wreath with Christmas coming up very soon. Now I will show you how easy it is to make!!!
Supplies
3 t shirts in assorted colors (I used red, light red and green)
metal wreath form
measuring tape
1 (2 1/2 inch) cookie cutter or biscuit cutter
scissors
glue
ribbon
pen
36 (1 1/4-inch) safety pins
Cut the Shirts
I started with the green shirt. Cut off the sleeves, hem and neckline. Also, cut along each side of the shirt.
Repeat With Remaining Shirts
Cut off the sleeves, hem, neckline and sides of the other 2 shirts. You now have 3 piles of fabric.
Draw and Cut Circles
Using the pen and cookie cutter, draw circles on the fabric. For this project, there are 6 sections on the wreath form. I need 6 circles in a rose-like cluster and I need 6 clusters in each section. 6 times 6 is 36. 36 times 6 sections is 216 circles for the entire wreath. I cut 144 deeper red circles and 72 lighter red circles for the wreath. Then I cut 10 green circles for the decorations. Not hard to do but a little time consuming. It will be worth it!!!
Make a Rose
Take a deep red circle and fold it in half, then bring in each side. Do the same with a light red circle and another deep red circle. Hold them together to make a cluster.
Push It In
Push the 3-circle cluster up through the wreath form. Make another 3-circle cluster and push it through on the other side of the metal form.
Use a Safety Pin
Pin through every petal of one cluster. In the middle, make sure the safety pin is attached under the metal, then pin through the other cluster. When you flip over the wreath form, it will be held in place and looks like a single rose.
Repeat
Continue making 3-circle clusters, safety pinning 2 clusters together and attaching the safety pin until the wreath form is filled.
Add Glue
Fold and make 10 green petals. Glue and arrange each in between the red roses on the front of the wreath.
Cut the Ribbon
Cut a piece of ribbon to tie at the top of the wreath. I made mine 20-inches long. This will be the hanger for the wreath.
Make a Tie
Tie the ribbon at the top center of the wreath.
Completed!
Here is the completed wreath!
Place It!
I placed the wreath on my back door for now, but I think it's going to go on my front door right after Thanksgiving! I was very happy with how it came out and I might start making some as Christmas gifts! I hope you enjoyed seeing how I made this beautiful wreath out of my old t shirts. You could make one in colors to match any holiday or season. If you do make one, I am sure you will impress everyone who sees it with it's beauty. Merry Christmas to you and yours!!!!
