Propeller Beanie With Continuous Servo Motor and Conductive Thread, Arduino
Using a continuous servo motor to make a propeller beanie with a switch made from conductive thread that is connected with a finger's touch. This video shows a quick cut of the process.
Supplies
Electronics: continuous servo, Arduino Uno, conductive thread, 9V battery
Propeller: cardboard, glue, vinyl
The Basic Circuit
A 9V battery is powers the Arduino Uno and continuous servo. The signal wire between the Uno and the servo is disconnected, which allows for a touch switch that uses the conductivity of a finger to make a connection.
Wearable Connections
I used conductive thread to sew two "patches" onto the side of the hat. On the inside, each patch has a single thread that is hot-glued to a jumper wire. One patch connects to the servo signal wire. The other patch connects to pin 9 on the Arduino. When the two patches are connected by a finger touch, the signal wire can communicate to the servo.
The servo was connected through the peak of the beanie.
Propeller
I traced the servo arm onto a piece of cardboard, cut a simple propeller shape, and used some metallic vinyl for color. The servo arms was glued to the propeller, and reconnected to the servo.
