Push Mower Hack for Tall People
Greetings Tall people! I am only 6'2", granted not Shaq, but still above the average height, and I have long gorilla like arms, so when I would mow my small piece of the American suburb dream my lower back would hurt for 3 days. And I may be late to the party sometimes but eventually I get there. I happened to have a set of handle bar extensions at the house but they cost very little and in this particular job WORK AMAZINGLY!
I saw some old handle bar ends, that used to live on my mountain bike and thought, "Hey, it helps keep my back from hurting when I ride, why wouldn't it work on the mower! So I took them off.
and with some finagling with a pair of alligator pliers and some taps with a dead blow, I go them to slide on. Taking the BIG pliers I readjusted the bar end jaws, by squeezing really HARD!
no problem....welll one problem. The bolts that came with the extensions were just a hair too short after the bending and stretching to get the bars on the mower handle.
So I had to find replacement bolts. Fortunately for me I am a pack rat and had kept all of the extra bolts from a LCD install kit that had the right metric size (M6X35) and a couple of washers.
I was off and mowing and I will swear I haven't felt this good after mowing the lawn ever! I hope this helps all Tall people who have had to suffer sore backs from pushing the evil short mowers!
