For this awesome snack recipe you'll need to find the following ingredients:

  • Red Onions
  • Bread Crumbs
  • Egg(1)
  • Milk
  • Corn Flour
  • Salt
  • Oil (For Deep Frying)

Prepping the Onions

The name itself suggests that the onions are supposed to be round. So unlike traditional way of cutting onions, we need to chop them down as thick slices horizontally.

Now using your hands, separate out the layers of the onions such that you get some nice rings. The Thicker the rings the better. For the rings to be thicker, be sure to choose big sized onions. Now keep them aside while we prep the flour for coating these onions.

The Flour Coat

We go through three layers of coating for the onion rings. The first one is the flour coat. For this mix some salt with the corn flour.

Now take the onion rings one by one and coat it by dipping it into this dry flour mixture. Now set it aside for a few minutes. 2 minutes should be sufficient for the coating to stick to the onions.

Prepping the Other Two Coats

Now once the flour coat is set properly on the onions, add milk and eggs to a bowl and whisk it properly so that they blend in to form a nice smooth texture. This forms the liquid coating for the onions.

As you're done with this, take a few slices of bread and cut off the crust. Now using your hands crush the bread and make it into a powder. These are called bread crumbs.

Now we're all ready to coat the onions.

Finish the Coating

Now that you have the other two coatings ready, take the flour coated onions and give it a gentle tap such that all the extra flour gets dusted off.

Now dip each onion into the milk-egg mix and then while it's still wet, put the onions on to the bread crumbs. Let the onions set for a while before deep frying.

Bread Crumbs are optional, they just provide a bit more crisp to the onion rings.

Deep Fry Time

While the onions are taking a bath in the freshly made bread crumbs, add oil into a deep-frying pan and heat it up.

When the oil is heated up, give the onion one final tap to dust off the remaining bread crumbs, but don't be so hard on it such that all the coating comes off.

Now slowly release each onion into the oil and let it cook till it gets a golden brown color. Now it's ready to be transferred on to a kitchen napkin to remove any excess oil.

Serve the Crispy Rings

Remove the excess oil and serve the hot Onion Rings with some tomato ketchup with tea. This will be a heavenly combination anyone in the world would savor, unless you're a pineapple pizza lover.

I'll be back with another awesome recipe pretty soon. Adios !!
