REACTION TIMER / NUMBER STOP GAME
The game consists of 3 seven segment displays which continuously keep counting and the aim is to stop on 100. The game is based on the Ic4026 the decade counter and 7 segment display driver and a 555 to generate pulses
INTRODUCTION AND MATERIALS
The game involves the starting and stopping of the counting of numbers to measure the reaction time. This device is also used by neurologists to tread the disabled but other than that it is a fun game to play
The difficulty of this build is not much but you will require lots of patience as the steps needed to be followed correctly in order to get the results. It took me about 15 to 20 hours to build this but I distributed the time around 2 weeks. I advice you also to do the same.
The working
The materials you would be requiring for this build are -
• IC4026 x3
• Common cathode seven segment display x3
• 555 IC x1
• Purf Board/ proto board
• 9v battery snap x1
• 8pin IC socket x1
• 16pin IC socket x3
• Ribbon cable 8 core x2m(optional but makes it very easy)
• ~10 k resistor x1
•~ 1 k resistor x1
• 1uf capacitor x1
• 10k to 50k resistor to set the speed
• 100k resistor x1
• Buttons x2
•470 ohm resistor
The tools you would require
• Soldering iron
• Wire strippers
• Hot glue
• Solder
• Box
• Cutter
• 22 gauge single core wire

GETTING THE SEVEN SEGMENT SEGMENT READY
The first step will be to check the seven segment display
You can do this by grounding the center terminal through a 470 ohm resistor an connecting the positive end to one of the terminals each one by one. Also make a note of the segments a to g as you will require them later.

CONNECTING THE SEVEN SEGMENT DISPLAY
This is the most important and the most tedious step. I have used this multicolored ribbon and assigned each color a segment that is first color is A and so on.
Also check after connecting each display whether each segment is working as it should by connecting the ground and touching each segment wire to the positive terminal.
ALSO GROUND THE DISPLAY THROUGH A 470 OHM RESISTOR

SETTING UP THE PULSING 555
Follow the schematic given above and assemble the circuit. Test the circuit by connecting a led to the 3rd pin. Also wire a button in series.
CONNECTING THE DISPLAYS TO THE 4026
Mount the IC sockets and the 4026 and make power and ground rails on either side of the purf board.
In the pin out diagram the pins marked A,B,C,D,E,F,G have to be connected to the corresponding segments in the display. Also check by touching pins of the 4026.

COMPLETING THE CIRCUIT
The connection is very simple and would not require not much work.
After connecting each 4026 test by giving pulse.

TROUBLESHOOTING
All queries can be posted in the comments section and I will get back to them earliest possible.
The trick for the completion of the project is to check after each step.
