RV Gas Stove Safety Lock

stove lock render.jpg

For many years, I lived in RVs full time, and all of them had gas stoves. A few years ago, one of my kitties, who loves to get on the counter, despite knowing that we don't get on the tables or counters, jumped onto the stove and kicked one of the knobs just right. Since I rarely used the stove, I didn't notice it for a few days while it slowly leaked propane into our kitchen. By the time I found it, I was getting dizzy and having breathing issues. I decided then that I had to either turn off the gas or find a way to keep the knobs from turning unless I was cooking.

The knob has to be pushed in to turn, so I designed this little disk to slide between the knob and stove, locking the knob. I had recently bought a 3D printer, so I took some measurements, started up Fusion 360, and had the first one done 2 hours later, solving the problem entirely. And kitty still jumps on the counter every time I look away.

Supplies

All you need is a 3D printer and some filament or resin!

For FDM printers, just slice this file with the flat side on the bed. No supports are needed, and you only need enough infill to keep the layers from falling as you print. 20% is easily enough!

For resin printers... well, I don't know how those work, but this is a very simple print!

If it doesn't fit right, scale the print to suit your knobs.

And... that's all! I found it easiest to slide the locks in from the side, then rotate them up so the opening is at the bottom.
