Rabbit Hay Feeder and Litter Box

How to Make a Hay Feeder and Litter Box for a Rabbit

I got a just got a rabbit and found out that they like to eat while using the litter box, so I made this! It’s a litter box and hay feeder all in one. It was built around a plastic litter box from Petco to make cleaning it a lot easier.

Assemble the Box

Assemble all of the plywood pieces for the main body using glue and brad nails as seen in the video. Seal any cracks with wood filler or silicone so the hay does not fall through and rot.

Bars

Drill ¼” holes in the square dowel far enough apart to let the rabbit access the hay, but close enough together that its head won’t get stuck. This distance varies based on the size of your rabbit. Drill matching holes in the other square dowel.

Finish the Bars

Attach the lower square dowel to the body of the box with brad nails and glue. Insert the round dowels into the holes with some glue, and cut them to the correct height. Then attach the top square dowel with more glue and brad nails.

Finish the Box

Sand everything smooth so that your rabbit won’t get any splinters. I chose not to use any finish on mine, but you could potentially use any food safe finish since the rabbit may nibble on it. Then place the plastic litter box in its place and fill up the the hay compartment.
