Madhubani art, a distinctive art form is famous in Mithila region of Bihar state in India. In this art form principally painting was done by the inhabitants in that region using vegetable colours with plastered rice. Madhubani painting has remained confined to a particular geographical area and the skill passed on over centuries. For this reason, Madhubani paintings have been accorded GI (Geographical Indication) status.Subsequently, this art form has also been depicted by needlework and is very famous. Madhubani art form generally deals with the Hindu Mythology, God & Goddess, flora & fauna or events in Royal court or various social events. In Madhubani art, normally, no space left vacant and space is filled with flowers, birds or geometric designs.
In this entry, a needlework of Radha - Krishna, the great Hindu God (Krishna) & his supreme devotee (Radha) is depicted in traditional Madhubani art form. Krishna is regarded as Supreme God in Vaishnavism theology of Hinduism and Radha embodies undying love to the God. The eternal love story of Radha -Krishna is symbolic of the divine union between the individual self and the universal self. Their love story mesmerised billions since thousands of years.
In this entry, the needlework comprised of Stem stitch, Backstitch, Satin stitch, Long & Short Stitch and Beaded Embroidery. The needlework portrayed traditional Indian Clothes and Jewellery. Krishna is believed to like Peacock, the majestic bird abound on the Mathura-Vrindavan area on the banks of Yamuna river, where Krishna was raised and lived, and hence Krishna's Jewellery always has Peacock's feather. Krishna is known to be very fluent in 'Bansi' a kind of Indian Flute; so all his images are seen with this musical instrument. At the end, this entry is not merely representing an art form but represents a belief in love.
