Razor Blade Batarang
This project utilizes old razor blades and turns them into miniature Batarangs! At little to no cost, this is an easy afternoon project.
Things You Will Need
You will need
-Old box cutter razor blade
-Dremel tool with cutting wheel and Sanding Drum
-Pliers
-Sharpie
-Some form of a butane torch
-Vegetable oil
-Water
-Batman logo template
-Black rust-oleum
-Clear rust-oleum
-Vice grip
-Files
-Patience
-Batcave
-Alfred
Light It Up
Use the torch to heat up the blade until it turns a metal blue-ish color. This is to make the blade easier to cut and shape. We will be re-hardening the blade later. You can cool it in water once it is sufficiently heated. When you take it out it should look like the picture above
Cleaning and Dulling
use a high grit sand paper or sanding sponge to clean the surfaces of the blade. Once cleaned take a file to the edge to dull it down to make it safer to handle.
Draw the Bat
Using the template trace the bat symbol onto the blade and for convenience of visibility fill in all the cut away space.
Sparks Fly
Using the rotary tool/Dremel, cut the colored space using many straight cuts. You wont need as many cuts as in the picture, its just a diagram. Use a drum sander attachment for the rotary tool to smooth out the curves and file off the burrs.
Re-heat and Quench
Heat up the Batarang again and quench it in the vegetable oil. Afterwards it should look kind of a dull grey. Just sand/buff the surfaces to get it to shine again.
Paint
Put some tape on the very edge of the remaining blade edge to keep it a nice shiny silver. Paint the rest black preferably with rust-oleum or some primer/paint spray. Once that is dry peel off the tape and spray with one or two coats of a clear coat.
You're Done!
That's all there is too it, use these as decoration or put a pin on it to make a lapel pin or tie tack, I am working on doing either of these modifications, if anyone thinks of a way to do it let me know, I am always open to suggestion. Enjoy working on these!
