Re-upholster an Old Chair With a T-shirt
Spiff up those dusty chairs you found on the sidewalk with this easy trick.
Not only does this give that gross old cushion a new-looking and personalized touch, but it will also help to trap in mold, dust and other nasty allergens.
Takes about 10 minutes.

Get a Big Shirt
Find an old shirt that you're never going to wear again.
Make sure it's big enough to cover the front of your cushion.

Take the Cushion Off Your Chair
Get a screwdriver and take the cushion off your chair.
Bag It
Put the whole cushion in a plastic bag. This will trap all the dust, mold and years of funk that have built up in your crusty old cushion.
People will allergies will thank you.
(By the way, if you have dust allergies, you should get rid of your carpet NOW. You should get rid of your carpet anyway because it's made of toxic chemicals that off-gas for the whole lifespan of the carpet.)

Staple the Bag in Place
Tack the bag to the cushion with a few staples.
Go Vegan
All this work will probably make you hungry, so stop and have a healthful snack that's high in fiber and folic acid.
Staple the T-shirt to the Cushion
Position the shirt on top of the cushion.
Turn the cushion around and staple the shirt to the back.
If your shirt has a picture like this one, make sure you remember which direction the image is facing. As you will see, I have attached the shirt backwards.

Re-attach the Cusion to the Chair
Screw the cushion back to the chair. Use a little muscle and screw right through the shirt and the bag. This will hold the whole ensemble together better.
Enjoy Your Work
Sit back and enjoy!
Now you have a chair that LOOKS almost new, and all the dust and mold is imprisoned inside where it cannot offend your allergies.
Notice I put my shirt on backwards. So make sure you don't make the same mistake, okay?
