If you're out with your buddies and somebody whips out a guitar, it can be really nice to have a pick. However, picks are easily dropped and lost when they fall out of your pocket or wallet, and who wants to dig around in your purse for fifteen minutes looking for the pick that fell to the bottom again?

That is where this handy jewelry comes in. You won't be without a pick at the jam session if you've got this jewelry.

Supplies

1. Guitar picks (or pick, for necklace) in the gauge you prefer *Don't use extra heavy gauge; you'll have too hard of a time punching through it
2. Strong hole puncher with a small diameter (mine is a 1/16th)
3. Round nosed pliers
4. Jump rings
5. Small lobster clasp (or other easy open clasp)
6. French hooks (for earrings)
7. Chain necklace in whatever length you prefer (necklace or bracelet)

Using the Hole Punch

You can clean your guitar pick first if you like.

Get out the guitar and play one. That way you can be sure where you can put a jump ring that would be in the way the least. Pay attention to what parts of the pick are not enclosed in your finger and thumb.

When I played a bit, I found that the bottom corner was definitely where I would need to put the jump ring because I had too much of the back still covered by my thumb, so a jump ring wouldn't work there.

Using a marker, I marked on my pick where I wanted to punch the hole then used the hole puncher.

Add the Jump Ring

With the round-nosed pliers, open the jump ring.

You open jump rings by twisting the ends away from each other, not by pulling it open. Grasp one side of the jump ring with the pliers near the opening of the ring. With your thumb, or another set of pliers, push the other side (the one the pliers aren't holding) away from you, making a gap between the two pieces and opening the ring. Open it as far as you need to to be able to slide it on the pick (it shouldn't be much, the pick is flat).

Close the jump ring by repeating the former steps except in reverse.

Take your chain and the lobster clasp. Attach the lobster clasp to the chain by way of a jump ring.

To put the clasp on a jump ring, open the ring and slide the loop end of the lobster clasp onto the ring. To anchor the clasp to the chain (so it won't slide around obnoxiously), slide the jump ring through one of the links in the chain. Then close the jump ring.

I like to try to find the center by holding up the chain by the necklace clasp and then pinching the very bottom of the loop so I mark it with my fingers. Then I put the ring through the chain.

If you can't put the ring through the chain, that is ok. Just know that your pick pendant will slide around on the chain.

There you have it! Go play guitar!

Earrings: Attach the Lobster Clasp

For the earrings.

Attach the small lobster clasp to the french hooks. Open the loop on the french hook by twisting the loop open sideways with the pliers (just like how to open the jump rings of earlier).

Slide the lobster clasp onto the loop. Close the loop.

If the clasp doesn't face the way you want, you can twist the loop on the hook to face a different direction. Just be careful not to push it too much; some metals don't want to do this as easily as others.

Earrings: Clip and Go!

Now all you have to do is clip the lobster clasp onto the jump ring of the pick and you're done! Rock

Rock'n'Roll

Now you can be ready to play guitar and have a fashion statement that shows the world your love of music. When you're ready to play, just unclip the pick from the clasp and play (obviously, leave the french hook in your ear so you don't lose it!)

You can wear your picks to the get-together and be confident that you are ready to rock!
