Recycled Kitchen Cupboard Door Planters

I made these planters from my parents old kitchen cupboard doors so I could grow some veg in the garden without digging up my grass! These are easy to make.

Firstly find two doors that are the same size and two more that are slightly larger. The larger ones will be used so the planter stands off the ground. On the smaller doors screw wooden batons approx 3cm wide and thick around the two sides and the bottom of the doors. I just used any off cuts I could find, make sure the bottom ones are the same width. Either measure and pre-cut these or screw on then saw to correct length.

Overlap the edges of the doors, making sure the tops are at the same height and screw through the batons on one door into the other door. Do this several times until two doors are secure on one corner. Repeat this for the other sides to make a hollow box structure. Depending upon how strong this shape is additional screws may need to be put in through outside of one door directly into the other door.

You will now need to measure the distance between the bottom batons on the base. Cut pieces of wood for this space and screw into place.

Now cut a piece of wood large enough for the base. This should fit above and be supported by the bottom batons. Screw into place. I did not have one piece large enough so used several lengths layer across. The slight gaps between the lengths allowed for drainage.

Treat the planter with your preferred wood preservative is or paint if you wish to change its colour. I then covered the inside of the planter with plastic. I used old bird seed bags. Remember to have a few drainage holes. Fill with soil and add plants.

If you have used two different sized doors you will not need to add feet to raise the planter. However if your doors were the same size or you wish to raise it further I used the old drawer fronts and screwed them into place as feet.
