This is a radio operated remote control on/off switch for up to four electrical appliances.

You will need:

The Power Supply

The radio receiver needs a 5-6 volt power supply.

This one will work: 5V 2A switching power supply http://www.adafruit.com/products/276

Or in my case I used a 6 volt battery box http://www.adafruit.com/product/830

and a Male DC Power adapter http://www.adafruit.com/products/369

Assemble the Receiver

Solder the barrel jack in holes A2, A4, and the third hole on the ground rail.

Cut three pieces of the female header, one with 7 connections, one with 5, and one with 2. Leave enough extra so you can sand the edges smooth.

Solder the headers in place according to the diagram.

Solder the red and black wires in place according to the diagram. Make sure that the wire from the 2 pin connector to the 5 pin header can reach to any place on the 5 pin header.

Connect the red wire from the 2 pin header to one of the pins 5 pin header.

  • Button A toggles pin D3
  • Button B toggles pin D2
  • Button C toggles pin D1
  • Button D toggles pin D0
  • The pin marked VT will go high when any of the four buttons is pressed.

Cut a red and a black wire about 8 inches long.

Put the red wire in the hole marked "1: +in" on the powerswitch tail and tighten the screw to hold it in place.

Do the same with the red wire. It goes in the hole marked "2: -in".

Connect the powerswitch tail into 2 pin header, noting polarity.

Plug the receiver into the 7 pin header, and connect the battery.

You can have as many as 4 receivers and assign 1 to each of the four buttons on the remote control.

Or you can hook up more than one pin on the same receiver. Just connect a wire to the pin and the other side goes to ground.
