**Update: The article below is from our legacy Android app! Valarm is Industrial IoT (IIoT). We'll help you, your teams, and your business with Industrial IoT applications using Valarm Tools Cloud.
We recommend using GSM, WiFi, or ethernet connector devices / sensors hubs with any sensors since they're much more reliable than Androids for Industrial IoT applications like:

You can use Valarm Industrial IoT, telemetry and remote sensor monitoring solutions with any of the following connector devices:

Valarm Industrial IoT sensor data is GPS-tagged, time-stamped, and sent to Valarm Tools Cloud / tools.valarm.net via any internet connectivity like WiFi, ethernet, or cell network. With Valarm Tools Cloud you’ll find services for mapping, graphing, and APIs like JSON to help you with your real-time, geo-enabled sensor monitoring and Industrial IoT applications.

Valarm compatible sensors and Industrial IoT hardware are available at shop.valarm.net.

Have a look at Valarm's Industrial IoT Customer Stories page for more on how these remote sensor monitoring and telemetry solutions are deployed in various industries.

Learn how all of this works together on our Web Dashboards for Remote Monitoring, Telemetry, Sensors & Industrial IoT.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if your business needs help with deploying an Industrial IoT application or have any questions!

Here’s what you’ll need for affordable remote monitoring of your windows in your home, office, or anywhere else:

- Valarm Pro installed on an Android device (dedicated device recommended, such as Sony Xperia U ST25)
- Yoctopuce Yocto-Knob sensor (Valarm compatible sensors are available at shop.valarm.net)
- A magnet switch for each window (up to 5 per Yocto-Knob sensor)

Connect the Dots: Phone / Tablet + Sensor

ValarmYoctoKnobMagnets.jpg
Connect your phone or tablet with the Yocto-Knob using a USB OTG cable. Use the lead wire(s) and ground wire to connect the Yocto-Knob to the magnet switch (alligator clips used in demo picture). The magnet switch will be attached to a window after Valarm app configuration.

Trigger Switch Settings

In the Valarm app, launch the menu for All Settings > Yoctopuce > Knob.

Verify that any channels using trigger switches like the magnets are set to “Open triggers MAX” as shown in the photo below. In this example I’m just using Channel 1 but the Yocto-Knob has 5 channels available for any combination of electrical resistance sensors.

Set Up Your Monitoring Environment

Now we’re ready to set up the windows for remote monitoring (a Sony Xperia U ST25i Android phone is shown in the photo). Attach one piece of the magnet switch to the window and the other piece to the wall.

Arm Your Valarm System for Alerts

ValarmYoctoKnobWindowOpen.jpg
Arm Valarm and whenever the window is opened you get alerts according to your active responses: email, SMS / text message, audio, web via tools.valarm.net.

Receive Triggered Alerts

The moment your window (or door or whatever else you set up) is opened, Valarm alerts you since you chose the “Open triggers MAX” setting in step 3.

Monitor Anything, Anywhere!

ValarmYoctoKnob5Sensors.jpg
The Valarm app with the Yocto-Knob supports up to 5 channels so you can set up a station for remote environmental monitoring and mobile data acquisition in all kinds of situations like outdoor and indoor air quality (iAQ). Here is a picture with Valarm monitoring potentiometers, a force-resistive sensor (measures pressure and weight: how hard is it being squeezed or stepped on?), and liquid detection / flood alerting (Trader Joe’s chocolate almond milk in this example). Use photo-resistors, e-tape, or any combination of sensors you like to monitor anything, anywhere!
